A company's documentation may be spread across departments, applications and repositories that keep their own administration. Federation organises querying through a common access architecture.

Distributed queries

The federation solution brings together search criteria and document references across the participating repositories. Each document keeps an identifiable relationship with its system of origin.

Identity and permissions

Access relies on the identity of the person querying and on the authorisations of the source repository. The connection between systems must keep each organisation's access boundaries.

Connectors and document mapping

The integration establishes how properties, document types and references relate across systems. Connectors are selected and configured according to the repositories taking part in the solution.

Information management

The design covers document location, index updates, caching and the response when a repository is unavailable. These criteria are part of the architecture agreed for each implementation.
